I found this book has a fascinating premise There are some truly excellent chapters like another review mentioned the one on Enablers was simply insightful but other chapters I was unsure what point he was trying to make I appreciated that he walks the reader through the basic plot lines of the plays he discusses and that he gives some historical background to what the political climate was in Shakespeare s timeHowever the author clearly has a bias and a bit of an ax to grind a bias that is confirmed in his Acknowledgements although he never mentions anyone by name and that soured me a bit on this book He is clearly anti Trump and makes several thinly veiled jabs and allusions to him specifically in his treatment of the subject That is unfortunate because I think he has a solid premise on many levels and it seemed almost juvenile for him to be poking a not so subtle finger at the current President Just so we re clear I dislike Mr Trump intensely as well so this is not about my own political leaningsI waffled between giving it 3 or 4 stars because I do feel that it was a decent exposure for the layperson on a complex and perennially timely issue but ultimately my dislike for his clear bias and obvious contempt for someone he clearly feels is in the same category of someone like Richard III wouldn t allow me to give it than 3
