The idea behind this book is great Its purpose is to assist crime writers in getting the forensics rightUnfortunately the first page I turned to was absolutely full of false information Mr Lyle the author claims that arson fires burn faster and hotter than accidental fires This is WRONG He then claims that signs of an especially hot fire concrete cracking irregularly cracked glass deep layer of wood charring are signs of arson WRONG AGAIN in several waysTo be fair to Mr Lyle fire investigators did at one time believe all this and indeed in the USA some innocent people were convicted of arson on the basis of these myths and at least one was executed But then in 1992 the National Fire Protection Association published a document debunking these misconceptionsMr Lyle s book published in 2008 should have reflected this better understanding of fire investigation So now the uestion I m asking myself is can I believe anything in this book

Howdunit Forensics: A Guide for Writers review ´ 9 What a dead body can revealincluding the cause mechanism and manner of death The actual steps taken to preserve a crime scene and the evidence that can be gathered there such as bloodstains documents fingerprints tire impressions andForensics is the ultimate resource for learning how to accurately imbue your stories with authentic details of untimely demises. This book is an excellent reference source explaining everything that has to do with forensics It covers a multitude of areas right from the time the body is discovered all the way to the complex procedures in the forensic laboratories explaining everything in detail including some real life case study examples There are about twenty informative chapters ranging from the early crime scene procedures to ballistics poisonous substances and many I was just about to give this book five stars when I checked the contents section It was unbelievably user unfriendly at least as far as kindle version is concerned It was impossible to jump to a specific chapter as it should be only to sections 1 2 or 3 This means that it will be very laborious every time you wish to access a particular chapter you will basically need to continuously turn one page after another which is ridiculous in the age of the kindle book I now wish that I had bought this book in print for uicker reference I hope that the author will read this and change the contents section to facilitate the accessing process Until then it will be frustrating to access specific chapters for information in the kindle version
